Stress temporarily rewires nerve cells in the brain to amplify hunger pangs, a new research including an Indian-origin researcher has revealed.

Researchers in the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI) at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Medicine have uncovered a mechanism by which stress increases food drive in rats.

This new discovery could provide important insight into why stress is thought to be one of the underlying contributors to obesity.

In this study, the researchers found that when food is not present, a stress response occurs that temporarily causes a functional re-wiring in the brain.

This re-wiring may impair the endocannabinoids' ability to regulate food intake and could contribute to enhanced food drive, the researchers said.

The researchers also discovered that when they blocked the effects of stress hormones in the brain, the absence of food caused no change in the neural circuitry.

Researchers Jaideep Bains, Ph.D. and Quentin Pittman, Ph.D., looked specifically at nerve cells (neurons) in the region of the brain called the hypothalamus. This structure is known to have an important role in the control of appetite and metabolism and has been identified as the primary region responsible for the brain''s response to stress.

"These findings could help explain how the cellular communication in our brains may be overridden in the absence of food," Bains said.

"Interestingly, these changes are driven not necessarily by the lack of nutrients, but rather by the stress induced by the lack of food," he added.

Kids also ate fewer snacks and smaller portions. The average child eats 30 percent more calories today than 40 years ago and gets less exercise. That adds up to extra weight.

Adults are worried because overweight children are more likely to develop health problems as teens or adults. First lady Michelle Obama started a program called Let?s Move (www.letsmove.gov), which encourages activity and healthful eating. Some restaurants are adding calorie information to menus and more-healthful choices. McDonald?s Happy Meals, for example, will soon contain apples and fewer french fries.

China recalls bullet trains in new blow to showcase technology (Reuters)

SHANGHAI (Reuters) ? China's second-biggest train maker will recall 54 bullet trains used on the new showcase Beijing-Shanghai line for safety reasons, the firm said on Friday, dealing a fresh blow to the nation's scandal-plagued rail system.

The recall of the CRH380BL-series trains comes three weeks after 40 people were killed in a high-speed rail crash, which triggered a wave of public fury, unusually critical media coverage and a freeze on approvals for new railway projects.

CSR Corp Ltd said in a statement with the Shanghai Stock Exchange that the recall would bring undetermined costs, but would not affect current sales contracts with its customers.

China's high-speed rail drive was until recently held up by senior government officials as a shining model of the nation's technological prowess. Now it has become an embarrassment.

"The government is putting a sudden brake on China's high-speed railway story, and we must wait for the bad days to pass over," said Lu Zhou, an analyst with Everbright Securities in Shanghai who follows China's high-speed railway train makers.

"A Great Leap Forward-style movement in China's high-speed railway is changing abruptly to a period of silence, and that could last a few years," he said.

The Great Leap Forward was Mao Zedong's disastrous effort in the late 1950s to catapult China into communist prosperity.

Railway officials first blamed July's crash on a lightning strike and then on faulty signals technology. But Friday, Chinese media quoted a senior investigator as saying the crash also exposed management failings and could have been avoided.

"There were serious flaws in the systems design that led to an equipment failure," said Luo Lin, the minister of China's State Administration of Work Safety, who is leading the probe.

"At the same time, this exposed problems in emergency response and safety management after the failure occurred," the Beijing Times cited Luo as saying.

"This was a major accident involving culpability that could have been totally avoided," he said.

RECALL COULD HIT STEEL, CEMENT DEMAND

As well as the political embarrassment for the ruling Communist Party, the slow-down in high-speed rail construction could also bite into demand for steel, cement and other commodities.

"The suspension of new railway projects and scaling back of affordable housing paints a worrying outlook for the steel sector," said UOB Kay Hian's commodities analyst Helen Lau.

It was unclear how drastically CNR's recall will disrupt services on the flagship Beijing-Shanghai route. Even before CNR announced the step, the railways ministry said it will cut the number of high-speed trains running on the route by a quarter, the official Xinhua news agency said Friday.

Calls to Beijing's southern railway station, where the service departs from, were not answered.

"You can buy bullet train ticket to Shanghai today, but I am not sure how long it will take to get you there," a ticket seller surnamed Zhou at the Beijing Yudixin Tourism Ticket Center told Reuters.

The latest recall came two days after CNR said its subsidiary, Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., was ordered by the Ministry of Railways to halt delivery of the CRH380BL after signaling faults in the trains' automatic safety systems.

China's flagship high-speed rail link between Beijing and Shanghai has suffered several delays due to power cuts and other technical reasons since it was launched with great fanfare in late June.

The country also plans to suspend new project approvals and to launch safety checks on existing equipments to address growing public fury following last month's crash.

Separately, the China Securities Journal cited a spokesman from China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Corp Ltd (CSR) as saying the firm's order book remains full until the third quarter of next year and has not been affected by the accident.

China South Locomotive had built both of the trains involved in the crash last month, one of which was manufactured as part of a joint venture with Canada's Bombardier.

NEW YORK (AP) ? Kate Moss felt inspired to get married by watching the British reality show "Big Fat Gypsy Weddings" which follows real-life gypsy women planning to get married.

The September issue of Vogue magazine goes inside the supermodel's July wedding to musician Jamie Hince. Moss says she was charmed by the extravagance of gypsy weddings with wedding gowns that are like "blinging butterflies times ten."

The 37-year-old's nuptials were also no small affair. She had 16 bridesmaids and flower girls, a carnival tent and tepees for children, specialty cocktails called Kate 76 made with vodka, champagne, crushed ice and sugar and a gown designed by John Galliano.

Moss admits in the article that planning the wedding made her "mental."

DENVER (AP) ? A weeklong nationwide search for three siblings accused of crimes in Florida and Georgia has shifted to Colorado, where police and FBI officials say they believe the trio made a purchase at an outdoors store and could be headed to a campground or rural area to try to avoid capture.

Authorities have said they have received "credible information" that people matching the description of the three were spotted in Colorado. The two brothers and sister are believed to be armed and dangerous, said Dave Joly, spokesman for the FBI's Denver office.

Joly said Wednesday there was no new information on the search for 21-year-old Ryan Edward Dougherty, 26-year-old Dylan Dougherty Stanley and 29-year-old Lee Grace Dougherty.

The three are accused of opening fire at a Florida officer after a high-speed chase, and of robbing a Georgia bank at gunpoint.

The possible sighting near Interstate 25 north of downtown Colorado Springs was reported around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Colorado Springs police said.

Sgt. Steven Noblitt said it hasn't been confirmed that the siblings are in the area, but the FBI said the people spotted Tuesday were in a small white Subaru Impreza with the stolen Texas license plate LCS 909. The suspects were last seen in a 2006 white Impreza.

"We don't have 100 percent identification, but it sure appears they were here with the information we have at this time," Noblitt said.

Authorities released few other details, but Joly said the people who were spotted made a cash purchase at an outdoors store, suggesting they may be trying to camp, and that park rangers have been notified of the search.

Joly didn't know what the three bought.

REI spokeswoman Libby Catalinich said the company, which has a store near the interstate, was contacted by law enforcement officials. She declined further comment, as did store employees.

A nationwide manhunt for the siblings began Aug. 2. The three are suspected of firing at least 20 shots at a Florida officer who tried to pull them over for speeding in a chase at speeds up to 100 mph.

Hours later, three people wearing masks robbed a bank in Valdosta, Ga., about 210 miles north. One robber brandished an AK-47 assault rifle while another was photographed by a security camera waving a machine pistol, the FBI said.

"We believe they pose an imminent threat to the community we serve," Joly said.

Prosperity and wealth is not only money and financial assets

What is wealth? And "the wealth of the soul? Your body? The environment or the environment? Your emotions? Your financial situation? Or all of the above? When many people think of prosperity, they tend to think of financial wealth income, wealth or lifestyle. There are many types of wealth in this world.

I found that as many people as they age ? and often cleverer (these two together is not always) ? tend tosee the wealth of more than a spiritual issue, and as a financial point of view. The same can be said for many. Abundance is not reserved for the rich. This is a state of mind that each of us can, if we want to keep. Over the years I have many times when I did not have economic prosperity and the consequent freedom to forget, it was difficult for me to focus on non-financial aspects of abundance and / or prosperity. Why? There was a lackSpirit? The lack of faith? The lack of understanding of what is wealth and wealth mean? As I have grown over the years, I've learned that it's enough for everyone in this world. The problem is ? how can we define enough?

Look around this week and note the abundance of the simple things in life. Scene to calm the mind. Quiet music for the soul. Food for the palate. Work to take the body. Friends help you grow. Familyand love to share. For many, this is not easy or even possible. To accept the key to understanding the abundance and prosperity, what you have with the grace,
Gratitude and quiet acceptance. Each of us has to be grateful for something in this life. We can choose, on what is wrong or lacks focus, or we can about the blessings we have received to concentrate. Life will not be easy, but it can be happy, regardless of what you think you're missing or what you canOpposite.

Here are just some ideas of prosperity for you to consider as you move through the days of the week.

? The family takes care of you.

? Lots of fresh air to breathe.

? A body that works for you tirelessly 24 hours a day.

? Customers have confidence in you.

? Friends who support you.

? A God who loves you.

? Animals that you accept unconditionally.

? Children (grandchildren ? for some of us) that I love.

? ColleaguesI believe in you.

? Suppliers who have faith in you.
